Community Support Adviser | Hull | Part time, 20 hours per week flexible between Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm | Fixed term contract until 31 March 2027 with possibility to become permanent subject to funding | £14,509.14 per annum for 20 hours per week (full time equivalent salary £25,391 per annum, pro rata)
Could you be the person who makes sure someone’s voice is heard when they need it most?
At Alzheimer’s Society, we believe no one should face dementia alone.
As a Community Support Adviser, you will be a reassuring and supportive presence for people living with dementia and those close to them. You will listen to what matters to each person, provide trusted information, guidance and emotional support and help them feel more confident about what happens next.
At the heart of this role is advocacy. You will help make sure the person living with dementia remains at the centre of conversations and decisions about their care and support. You will represent their wishes, help them express what matters to them and have the confidence to speak up and respectfully challenge decisions or approaches when their voice is not being heard.
You do not need previous experience in dementia, healthcare or social care. What matters most is your ability to listen, build trust, see a situation from someone else’s perspective and stand alongside them when they need support.
This is an active, mainly community based role requiring regular travel across the Hull region.
You will spend much of your time meeting people in their homes and in community settings across the Hull region. Some planning and administration can be completed from home. However, the role is primarily face to face and focused on building trusted local connections, so the ability to travel regularly is essential.
No two days will be quite the same.
You may support people living with dementia and those close to them, provide guidance face to face or by phone, advocate for their wishes in conversations with professionals and help them understand the support available. You may also respond to new referrals, support local groups such as Singing for the Brain and Carers Peer Support, connect people with ongoing support in their community and build relationships with local organisations while representing Alzheimer’s Society.
Your transferable skills could come from customer service, housing, education, advocacy, community work, volunteering or another people focused role.
If you are someone who listens with empathy, builds trust and has the confidence to speak up for what matters to another person, we would love to hear from you. We will provide training and ongoing support to help you develop your dementia knowledge and confidence.
This role is known internally as Dementia Adviser.
