What if the skills you’ve built in your career could help make a difference to people affected by dementia?
Dementia touches so many lives, and the support of local communities, businesses and individuals helps Alzheimer’s Society provide vital support, fund research and work towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives.
As Regional Fundraiser for Norfolk & Suffolk, you’ll help make this possible by encouraging more people to support our work and helping that support grow.
You don’t need to have worked in fundraising before. If you’ve worked in sales, recruitment, business development, account management or customer engagement, you could already have many of the skills needed for this role. Perhaps you’re used to understanding what matters to people, developing new business, managing client relationships or working towards targets. We’re interested in what you can bring from your experience and how you’d like to use those skills in a role with a meaningful purpose.
You’ll work with local businesses, community groups and individual supporters to explore ways they can get involved, from organising your own fundraising activities to developing longer-term partnerships. You’ll also help existing supporters build on what they already do, finding new ways to grow their contribution and stay connected to our work.
You’ll be part of a welcoming fundraising team, working alongside colleagues and volunteers across the region. With support to develop your fundraising knowledge and ideas, you’ll have the opportunity to see the impact of your work in communities across Norfolk & Suffolk.
What you’ll do
The role combines meeting people, developing new fundraising opportunities and coordinating activity to help grow income across the region. Some days will involve visiting local businesses or attending community events; others will focus on planning, following up on conversations and reviewing progress with colleagues.
You can expect to:
- Plan and deliver fundraising activities across Norfolk & Suffolk, working towards agreed income and engagement goals with support from your team.
- Develop connections with local businesses, corporate partners, community groups and individual supporters, understanding their interests and exploring how they could support Alzheimer’s Society.
- Identify potential supporters, build new connections and follow up on opportunities to turn initial conversations into lasting fundraising partnerships.
- Look after existing supporters, helping them develop their fundraising plans and find new ways to get involved over time.
- Create accessible and engaging fundraising opportunities that reflect the interests and circumstances of different people and groups.
- Work with colleagues and volunteers to coordinate activity, share ideas and deliver fundraising plans.
- Monitor income and activity, using information to review progress and help inform future plans and decisions.
- Represent Alzheimer’s Society at local events and in community settings, raising awareness of our work and encouraging support.
The role involves travel across Norfolk & Suffolk and occasionally to wider areas of the region. Some evening and weekend work will be needed, usually for events and community activities, and this will be planned in advance wherever possible.
About you
You enjoy working with people, feel comfortable starting conversations and are interested in what motivates them. You might be someone who enjoys finding a solution, developing a new contact or helping turn an idea into something practical.
Your experience could come from fundraising, but it could equally come from a commercial, recruitment, customer-facing or other relationship-focused role. For example, you may have developed a client base, matched candidates with opportunities, managed customer accounts or worked towards business targets. These experiences can all be useful when engaging supporters and developing fundraising income.
You’ll bring:
- Experience of working with people, customers, clients or organisations and maintaining positive relationships.
- The confidence to approach new contacts, ask questions and explore potential opportunities.
- An understanding of working towards targets or goals, along with the ability to monitor progress and use basic financial information.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to adapt your approach to different people and situations.
- An organised and flexible approach, helping you balance planning, follow-up and activity across your area.
- A willingness to learn, share ideas and work with colleagues and volunteers.
- An appreciation of the contribution volunteers make and an interest in helping them feel supported.
You don’t need to have all the answers or know everything about fundraising from day one. What matters is the experience you bring, your curiosity to learn and your desire to do something meaningful with your skills. Whether you’re looking for a new challenge or a chance to take your career in a different direction, this is an opportunity to turn the skills you already have into something that really matters. You could help bring new supporters on board, inspire local communities and play a part in making life better for people affected by dementia. We’d love to hear what you could bring to Alzheimer’s Society.
Interviews are provisionally scheduled to take place on 17th November via MS Teams.
