Dementia Adviser | Copeland and wider North Cumbria | 21 hours per week, preferably Wednesday to Friday with flexibility to be agreed | £15,234.60 to £16,470.00 per annum for 21 hours per week (full time equivalent salary £25,391 to £27,450 per annum pro rata) | Permanent
Living with dementia can bring significant changes for the person with the diagnosis and those close to them. Having someone who listens, provides reassurance and helps people find the right information, services and opportunities can make a real difference.
As a Dementia Adviser, you will support people affected by dementia across Copeland and North Cumbria. You will manage your own caseload, responding to new referrals and supporting existing service users to understand their options and access the right support. You will work with people towards agreed outcomes, recognising when it is right to step back while reassuring them that they can return to the service if their circumstances change.
This is an active, predominantly community based role, so regular travel is an important part of the job. You will spend much of your time meeting people in their homes and community settings, building relationships with local organisations and representing Alzheimer's Society. You will regularly travel across Copeland and more widely across North Cumbria when needed. Some communities are rural and public transport may be limited, so a driving licence and access to your own vehicle would be preferable. While you can complete some administration and record keeping from home, this is first and foremost a community based role, with most of your time spent supporting people across the area.
No two days will be exactly the same. You might visit someone at home, respond to a new referral, follow up existing casework or connect with memory services, memory cafes, carers groups and other community organisations. You will build strong local relationships and help raise awareness of our service, so that people affected by dementia can find and access the support available to them.
Organisation is a big part of the role. You will balance existing casework, new referrals, community relationships and record keeping, deciding what needs your attention first as priorities change. You will need to manage your caseload efficiently, work towards agreed outcomes and maintain capacity to support new referrals, while making sure your casework and records meet the required quality standards.
You do not need to have any particular background or experience. Your experience could come from care, support, community or other people focused work. What matters is having the right transferable skills and a genuine motivation to make a difference.
About you
You could thrive in this role if you:
• Are highly organised and confident managing your own workload, caseload and competing priorities.
• Are empathetic and caring, with the ability to build trusting relationships with people affected by dementia and those close to them.
• Are adaptable and able to work autonomously, using your judgement as needs and priorities change.
• Are proactive and confident building relationships with community organisations and local services.
• Can work independently while also being a collaborative and supportive team member.
• Are confident using IT to maintain accurate records and can travel independently and reliably across the area.
You will be joining a small, supportive team working closely together so being a team player is an important part of the role.
Above all, we are looking for someone who wants to make a tangible difference to people affected by dementia at what can be a challenging time in their lives.
You do not need to tick every box or have done this exact role before. If you have relevant or transferable experience and recognise your skills in what we have described, we would encourage you to apply.
Interviews are provisionally planned for the week commencing 23 November 2026.
